Human Rights
‘Poor is a crime’ my Dad used to exclaim in moments of frustration. It took me a long time to truly understand what he meant, now I think I do.
When you are poor you don’t have any rights or protections.
Food, Shelter, Education, Autonomy.
They are what you aspire to.
You spend your days fighting through the pain, showing up, working, and still you have no money, you aren’t sure if you’ll be able to afford where you’re living next month.
You skip meals, walk or carpool to cut back on travel expenses and by the skin of your teeth you get to the first of the month with a roof over your head for the next 30 days. One day less than last month.
The only thing you own outright are your dreams.
Delusions that feed your soul just enough to keep you moving forward generating power. We’re no different from hamsters on a wheel.
